Applications of Skirting rubber and rubber lagging

Conveyor systems and mining industries frequently utilize skirting rubber and rubber lagging. This is generalized stuff rubber mostly employed on conveyor belt to avoid corrosion and leakage of materials. This is primarily opted for strengthening the materials in case of spillage and dust pollution conditions, maintaining the original shape and structure of the conveyor belt and mining ropes.

Skirting rubber 

It is flexible complex of natural and synthetic rubber found in a width of 2000m, totally appropriate as side skirt for conveyor applications. It is basically used as a buffer so that material spillage can be escaped majorly during transferring processes. It acts to provide tensile strength at loading, transfer and discharge points during mining processes. The unique characteristic of skirting rubber is its availability in a variety of sizes, depending upon the desire requirement. This rubber lacks chambers, therefore when in use; the worker can create chambers at any edge according to the required angle. Its major advantage lies in its adhesive sealing capacity. It is manufactures in form recyclable short and long pre-cut strips, slabs and sheets usually applied to areas experiencing most of the load of materials. Newly introduced skirting rubbers have solved the breakthrough, overcoming hurdle of load points, easily installed and maintaining the beltline.  

Designing of Skirting rubber 

To carry on the bulk load materials safely requires extra assistance of high quality designed skirting rubbers. It is flexible in nature having abrasive resistance, cut and tear strength. Once sealed, it can create a strong contact with belt in mining system, preventing leakage. Apart from solid impact, skirting rubber reduces the friction and flexes out between the rubber and conveyor belt coverage area, continuing a smoother run in conveyor applications. This equalizes the repeated use and durability of skirting rubber for a longer period preventing drag of rubber with belt.

Rubber lagging 

Lagging applies to the word coverings, coating and shells which are imparted on the contact surfaces of drive pulleys. Rubber lagging is a soft liner pulley lagging with a flexibly elastic texture, improving friction and swiftly regulating the flow of water over and along the pulley. Pours between the laggings and belt over pulley creates moisture flow, protecting pulley from wearing out. These laggings can be designed in a standard width and length as designated below: 

  • Light-duty lagging 
  • Plain pattern lagging 
  • Diamond pattern lagging 

The application, duty and operational life of lagging is also kept insight during manufacture. Further, depending upon the type of lagging required the rubber can be grooved and shape accordingly. Lagging is a versatile product which can be useful in a various hardness, strength, thickness, shape and pattern. It can be light weight resistance to stern hard duty weight resistance. One of the significant distinctive properties of rubber lagging from skirting rubber is limited life span and vulnerable nature. It cannot constantly avoid the rubber slippage off the pulley and can increase frictional drag. Thus, it requires regular replacement with a new rubber lagging.

In some instances, pulleys are provided with diamond patterned grooved rubber lagging, indicating the shape of lagging as in vehicles tyres. Non- drive Pulley shells coated with plain rubber laggings are the tail pulleys, take-up pulleys etc., which have similar covering procedure with the absence of any specific pattern. These different laggings can be applied on pulleys by cold bonding or hot vulcanization using mechanical agents. Industrially, lagging services are grouped based on their advancements and specific uses into spiral rap top, vulcanized, ceramic, wing (smooth), wing (rough) categories. Rubber lagging transfers the tensile loads between the pulley and belt line. 

Conclusion 

Skirting rubber and rubber lagging are important equipment in large industrial companies involving machinery prone to high friction and frequent damage. To avoid these circumstances, both these are implemented on comprehensive broad range mining and other pulley devices, permitting long term services and increased product operational limitation. Both are promising potential coatings protecting the pulley face and beltline. This not only preserves the instrument for larger span, however, it also greatly improves the consumer cost
